Digital connectivity is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.
This past year we saw the disproportionate lack of connectivity and adoption grow even wider by race, income, and zipcode. We saw millions of students unable to go to school, elders unable to get medical access, essential working families having to choose between paying for electricity or the internet, and small businesses closed due to lack of connectivity and adoption of digital tools.Â
2021 promises to bring billions of funding to address these disparities. We are on the brink of the rollout of the largest broadband benefit program in U.S. history - Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB). This Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) temporary program will provide $3.2B to enable families that have lost jobs and/or are low income to access subsidized broadband and devices.
However how do we ensure that communities most in need get connected and not be left out again? The Kapor Center, in collaboration with key broadband policy leaders and community organizers, invite you to join us to discuss the current state of national broadband policy and how the EBB can have cultural relevance while reaching those that need it most. In collaboration with partners, Kapor Center will be organizing EBB pop ups.
